Welcome to The $ Hackers! Thanks for stopping by. We can’t wait to get started with helping each other accomplish our dreams through positive and encouraging conversations about money. Check our stories below! We can’t wait to hear yours.
My name is Jordan, I’m 29 years old, married to the girl of my dreams and father to the cutest kid I’ve ever known. We reside in Philadelphia, PA. Go Eagles!
Both my wife and I are passionate about using money as a tool for reaching our personal goals. We believe that simply having money is not the end goal, but rather using money as a tool is the most effective way to reach many personal goals. We love helping others realize their personal goals as well, especially when it comes to having wisdom (and sometimes restraint) in dealing with personal finances.
I grew up in rural, northern Pennsylvania where the incomes were low and the opportunities scarce. Growing up it seemed that I was surrounded by people struggling just to get by even though they worked hard day in and day out. Throughout my college career and into the start of my professional life I realized that these experiences were not limited to the area where I grew up.
As time has passed I’ve met people from all income levels and learned that although some people seem to have their finances in order the majority of Americans are struggling financially in one way or another. It has always hit me as strange that so many of the citizens of one of the richest countries (per capita) in the world struggle so much.
The goal of The $ Hackers is to encourage you in your journey and help you learn how to control your money and not the other way around. We love talking personal finances and we want to engage with you on a personal level. We look forward to continually learning ourselves and believe that we can help change a generation financially to provide a brighter tomorrow. No matter where you are in your current financial situation we believe that TODAY is the day to start taking small steps in the right direction!
We hope you join us!
My name is Matt Campana. I’m 28 years old and live in the Philadelphia area with my beautiful wife.
Quick story: I went to college at Drexel and had a disgusting amount of student loan debt coming out of it for a Music Degree (amazing school though!). I also love Mustangs…a lot. I financed 3 of them and couldn’t afford the gas for them at times (good old ultra-premium). Ultimately, I started living on credit cards – tens of thousands of dollars worth of chicken wraps, bar bills, trips, laptops, whatever! I used to use my credit cards to pay my credit cards!
I started this blog because of Jordan. One day I was over at his house and he dropped a book on me and it basically punched me in the face financially. It made me realize that I was making money, but not keeping any of it. I kept getting raises, but I would just get further into debt. I was well over $XXX,XXX in debt and I didn’t own a house. I didn’t want to live that way, but I didn’t know what to do. Over the next few years I started a process that kicked my butt, but I’m on my way to being in complete and total control over my finances.
I have worked in Fortune 100, 500, and Mid Market businesses. I’ve done everything from dressing up and running carnival games at a former high-school teacher’s house and had kids throw bean bags at me, climbed through ceilings running wires at 3AM in the morning at hospitals, and I’ve managed over a billion dollars in assets running financial systems for billion dollar companies. I was around high income earners wondering why no one had any money. I saw all ages, all walks of life, “rich” and poor who were simply broke. I realized that there is this invisible wall of status that we all want to keep or things we want to do. The ironic part is that as we do that…we never make it to the other side. I’m here to tell you, there is another side and it ROCKS!
The goal of this blog is to help us all get to the other side and HAVE FUN while we do it by making more money, smarter money, and sustainable money. I’ve made everything from $50 a week eating Ramen to much more than that because of the principals we will cover in this blog. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I’m in charge now. Can’t wait to see you on the other side.
